 Degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, completed in 1969.
He was a professor at the Higher Institute of Economics between 1971 and 1980, being in charge of the regency and coordination of the "Contracts and Commercial Law" chair.

He was professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, as Assistant, between 1975 and 1987, in the chair of "Commercial Law".
He was an invited associate professor at the Law Degree of Universidade Autonónoma de Lisboa, from 1987 to 1993, where he was coordinator and director of the "Commercial Law" chair. He was a professor at the Higher Institute of Labor and Enterprise Sciences ("ISCTE"), between 1996 and 1997, where he ruled the chair of Business Law.

Finally, he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, from 1997 to 2002.

He has been a member of the Bar Association since 1972.

After collaborating with prominent figures of Portuguese lawyers to date, such as Professors Doutor José Dias Marques or André Gonçalves Pereira, he finally founded J.A. Pinto Ribeiro & Associados Law Firm.

He is a founding partner of Pinto Ribeiro, Miranda, André, Antunes & Associados - Sociedade de Advogados SPRL, since June 2018.

As the main professional notes, the following should be highlighted:

Between 1974 and 1990, he was the legal advisor responsible for the international area of Banco Português do Atlântico. He was the lead author of the authorization process to open the Bank's branch network abroad - namely in New York, the Cayman Islands, London and Macao - and established the Commercial Bank of Macau;
Since 1970, he has provided legal advice to a number of foreign loans to Portuguese companies, or as a lawyer to the lending banks, including Banco Comercial Português, Banco Totta & Açores (currently Banco Santander Totta), Banco Kleinworth Benson, Privat Banken (DK), Banco Comercial de Macau, SA, Banco Chemical Finance, SA, and other borrowing companies, such as TAP, Brisa, Soponata, among others.

He has participated actively in the formation of SIBS, Sociedade Interbancária de Serviços, SA, and the Portuguese Banking Association, whose initial statutes he have prepared, and advised the Carlo de Benedetti Group in Portugal through COFIPSA, SGPS, SA and COFIR - Corporation Financiera Reunida, SA (Madrid).

From September 1985 to January 30, 2008, he was a member of the Legal Committee of the Banking Federation of the European Union. He chaired this Legal Committee of the Banking Federation of the European Union for the four-year period 1995-1999.

He was "National Representative" as head of delegation of the Portuguese State at UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) during the Portuguese presidency of the EU between June 2007 and January 2008.

He represented the Regional Government of the Azores in negotiating the financing, led by ABN / AMRO Bank, to the Autonomous Region of the Azores, and negotiating with the Government of the Republic and Caixa Geral de Depósitos, which led to the rescheduling of the debt of the Autonomous Region of the Azores to Caixa Geral de Depósitos.

He led teams that led the process of legal analysis of the possible take-over of the Euro-Labor Laboratory by Grünenthal, GmbH, Banco Chemical (Portugal), SA, to its Management (MBO), Insurance Company CGU International Insurance PLC, for Victoria Seguros, SA, and Compal and Nutricafés by Caixa Capital, SA.

He was a non-executive director of several companies, namely Portucel, SGPS, S.A., between 1997 and 2005, and PT Multimédia, S.A., between 2006 and 2008.

He is the Director of Altran ASD Portugal, with the responsibility of coordinating and managing the operations of that multinational in Portugal, in the aeronautics, security and defense sectors.

Between July 2011 and May 2012, he was senior consultant for Altran Spain, in the defense, aeronautics and automotive industries.

He has 14 years of experience in different public departments in Portugal, dealing with matters of legal and management nature.

Between 2002 and 2005, he worked in Macao as legal advisor to the Chinese Administration of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Between 2001 and 2011, he held different positions in Cabinets of Government members in Portugal, highlighting the functions performed in the Ministry of Education as legal adviser to the Minister in the Ministry of Internal Administration as head of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Internal Administration, and in the Ministry of Agriculture as head of the Minister's office, during which time he was appointed as the focal point of the Ministry for different public companies, namely EDIA - Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-Estruturas do Alqueva, S. A., e a DOCAPESCA - Portos e Lotas, S. A.
