Through Decree-Law no. 41-A/2024, of June 28, the Government extended, for another year, the validity of residence permits, visas and other documents of foreign citizens, ensuring the legality of their stay in Portuguese territory.

Accordingly:

– Until 30 June 2025, residence permits, visas and other documents relating to the stay in Portuguese territory of foreign citizens, whose validity expired after 24 February 2020, will continue to be accepted, under the same terms.

– After 30 June 2025, the aforementioned documents are also accepted as long as the holder provides proof that they have already scheduled their renewal.

This is a measure that aims to respond to the delays seen in the processing of renewal and extension procedures for the aforementioned documents, thus allowing to mitigate the negative impact on the professional and family life situation of their holders, as well as ensuring the maintenance of the conditions of access to public services.
